Issy-les-Moulineaux, France -- Wavecom, Inc. announced today that it has joined the Symbian Platinum Program to enhance its offering to the smartphone market. As a Platinum Partner, Wavecom is extending its wireless technology solutions to the Symbian OS ecosystem. Symbian develops and licenses Symbian OS™, the global industry standard operating system for advanced mobile phones, to the world's leading handset manufacturers, accounting for over 80 per cent of worldwide mobile phone sales.

"This partnership reflects our commitment to provide handset manufacturers with all the wireless technology they need, enabling them to respond to demand as soon as new market requirements or opportunities appear," said Hervé Gagnard, Vice President Corporate Development at Wavecom. "By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, we intend to make it faster and easier for our customers to integrate Symbian OS into their products. We are pleased to be part of a fast-moving industry that is generating increasing support for Symbian OS and driving demand for enhanced smartphone features that will dramatically improve the usability of wireless devices."

Wavecom offers integrated technology solutions for wireless voice and data applications. The company's Wireless Open Workshop offering consists of a series of Development Labs addressing the technology needs of handset makers and vertical application developers. Each Development Lab integrates four main components: software, hardware, development tools and services.

By becoming a Symbian Platinum Partner, Wavecom will ensure the compatibility of its Mobile PDA and Feature Phones Development Lab solutions with Symbian OS, enabling Wavecom's customers to integrate Symbian OS–based PIM functions such as e-mail, agendas and address books into their smartphone products. Another key advantage is the interoperability of applications and services, which allows end-users to download applications from a huge community of developers.

"Wavecom's Development Labs for the handset market provide the core of an impressive range of products, developed by some of the mobile industry's most dynamic players," said Gilles Allain, Vice President, Partnerships & Alliances at Symbian. "As a Platinum Partner Wavecom has the opportunity to bring their complete wireless technology expertise to the Symbian ecosystem."
