Wave Wireless Successfully Debuts "Packethop" Non-Line-Of-Sight Solution At Networld+Interop

Wave Wireless Networking, a division of SPEEDCOM Wireless Corporation (Nasdaq: SPWC), successfully debuted its new Non-Line-of-Sight SPEEDLAN PH9000 Series product line during the Networld+Interop trade show in Las Vegas (Booth # 125). This versatile and cost-effective family of point-to-multipoint last-mile wireless gateways, base stations, and subscriber routers is based on SPEEDCOM's revolutionary "PacketHop" non-line-of-sight (NLOS) technology.

"The addition of PH9000, and its PacketHop non-line-of-sight capabilities, will allow us access to areas we could never reach otherwise," said Edward West, President of Westlink Internet. "We've already placed our order because it could double, or even triple, our revenues."

The SPEEDLAN PH9000 Series products enable service providers to extend their network reach and deliver broadband wireless access to more customers than ever before. By removing line-of-sight (LOS) issues caused by large buildings, hills, and other obstructions, service providers can reduce network deployment costs while maximizing their broadband wireless investment. Service providers currently deploying the SPEEDLAN 8000 series will be able to overlay the new PH9000 series products, with a very simple hardware upgrade. The NLOS capability of the PH9000 will enable an ISP's network to reach nearly all subscribers, maximizing the revenue-generating capability of its network.

The new SPEEDLAN PH9000 series products are specifically designed to reach more than 90% of a sector's population by overcoming the need for clear line-of-sight between the base or repeating station, and a subscriber's premise transceiver. The first products in the line to be released are designed as either a seamless "pico-cell" NLOS extension to a current SPEEDLAN 8000 Series deployment, or as the heart of new multi-sector "pico-cell" deployment where NLOS functionality is specifically required. The PH9000 products, available in either indoor "shelf-mount" or outdoor "wall/pole mount," are simple to install and provide the unique ability to "self-heal the network" as a sector's topography or geography changes over time. Service Providers currently deploying the SPEEDLAN 8000 Series are invited to order evaluation units of the new PH9000.

"We're thrilled to have one of the industry's first "non-line-of-sight" solutions which overcomes the largest single obstacle to the successful worldwide deployment of fixed wireless networks," said Bruce Sanguinetti, President of SPEEDCOM Wireless. "With this revolutionary technology, service providers will be able to maximize their customer reach and, therefore, their revenues."
