Tyco To Cut 4,000 Jobs at AMP

Exeter, NH-based Tyco International announced that it will cut 4,000 jobs from AMP Inc. (Harrisburg, PA), one of the electronic industry's largest makers of connectors.

"We're trying to have AMP regain the leadership in its market," says Brad McGee, a spokesperson for Tyco.

Tyco's announcement increases the number of cutbacks at AMP. During 1998, the connector manufacturer laid off 4,200 employees. Once the new layoffs are complete, AMP will have reduced its staff by more than 8,000 employees in a two-year period.

Today's announcement also comes two weeks after Tyco completed its $11.3 billion purchase of AMP.
