Lowell, MA -- Tyco Electronics announced that its M/A-COM business has been awarded a contract by the Assistant Project Manager Land Mobile Radio (APM LMR) to design and deploy a radio communications system utilizing the company's P25IP (Project 25 to the power of Internet Protocol) and NetworkFirst technology to advance critical radio communications for police, fire and tenant command users at the U.S. Army Garrison Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County, MD. The three-site, 19 channel, M/A-COM P25IP trunked radio communications system will provide reliable communications for more than 2,000 users throughout the 72,500 acres of the Army's oldest active military testing facility.

"Tyco Electronics is pleased to be selected as the vendor-of-choice by the APM LMR to provide a reliable critical radio communications system for each radio user at Aberdeen Proving Ground and the Aberdeen Test Center," said Jane Wargo, federal regional sales manager, Tyco Electronics. "The redundancy and reliability of our proven end-to-end IP-based communications systems deployed around the country led to our success in securing this contract, as did our ability to provide future connectivity to the National Capital Region (NCR) radio system."

The M/A-COM P25IP technology will provide radio coverage for Aberdeen Proving Ground's main base and remote locations. M/A-COM NetworkFirst interoperability solution is designated a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology under the Department of Homeland Security's SAFETY Act and it will connect legacy systems through its IP network architecture.

Working in tandem with Tyco Electronics, Quetron (Forest Hill, MD) and TransCore (Harrisburg, PA) will provide local support for the system implementation. Once deployed, the M/A-COM communications system will connect Aberdeen Proving Ground's 66 tenants, including the U.S. Research, Development and Engineering (RDECOM), U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center, U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventative Medicine and the U.S. Army Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, among others.
