Tiny Form Factor Wireless High-Speed Radios With Ethernet Introduced

Boulder, CO -- FreeWave Technologies announced the MM2 900 MHz radio with Ethernet. According to the company, the MM2 is the industry's smallest data radio with the highest performance in its class. With the added convenienceand versatility of an Ethernet interface, the new radio ideally is suited for any embedded OEM application including advanced military equipment where space is at a premium, such as RTUs, EFMs, PLCs, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV) and guided parachutes.

"Based on feedback from our customers, we designed a radio with a very small footprint, yet with the same unique FreeWave high-performance characteristics for maintaining robust links even in the most harsh RF conditions," explained Colin Lippincott, FreeWave spokesperson. "We also set out to design a 900 MHz radio that is readily transferable to additional frequencies, especially military frequencies. Interest in additional frequencies was at an all time high at the 2008 AUVSI conference in San Diego that we recently attended."

The new MM2 with Ethernet comes in two speeds: Standard and High Speed. Specific features include:

  • Tiny footprint -- the dimensions for the IP interface combined with the MM2 radio are 101 x 51 x 13 millimeters with a weight of only 42 grams.
  • Unequalled low signal performance -- RISC-based signal demodulation with matched filter. Sensitivity is specified and guaranteed.
  • Unparalleled signal performance -- the GaAs FET RF front end with multi-stage surface-acoustic-wave (SAW) filters has an unmatched combination of overload immunity and sensitivity. Selectivity is specified and guaranteed.
  • Industrial grade high-speed Ethernet -- supports TCP, industrial grade wireless security and serial communications, all in one package.
  • Selectable speeds -- ranging 115.2 KBPS to 1.23 MBPS.
  • Versatile -- a single MM2 or MM2 Ethernet can be used in a security network as a master, slave, repeater or master/slave unit.
  • High noise immunity -- offers superior performance in noise-congested environments.
  • Great range -- has a line-of-sight range to 60 miles at standard data rates and 30 miles at high-speed data rates.
  • Secure -- FreeWave's proprietary spread spectrum technology prevents detection and unauthorized access; offers 128-bit AES encryption.
  • Reliable -- 100 percent tested for RF performance from -40 degrees Celsius to +85 degrees Celsius.

The new MM2 Ethernet complements FreeWave's existing MM2 family of radios, which also are available in standard or high-speed versions and have all the features and functionality of the larger footprint FreeWave FGR radios.

FreeWave's MM2 900 MHz Ethernet Radios are available for shipment now.
