Terocelo Announces Prerelease Of Upgraded WiMAX Evaluation Platform
The timing of the Platform release has been scheduled to meet the needs of Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) and Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) developing products to satisfy the forecasted high-growth rate in the WiMAX marketplace. The worldwide WiMAX equipment market is expected to increase to $5.6 billion in sales by 2010, up from $586 million in 2006, according to a publicly available forecast published as part of Infonetics' Research Quarterly WiMAX report.
WiMAX is a second generation protocol that allows for more efficient bandwidth use and at higher data rates. WiMAX can provide broadband wireless data access over longer distances, 30 miles (50 KM). The higher data rate over distance allows applications such as streaming mobile video, video conferencing, and IPTV to be more accessible.
"This next generation WiMAX Evaluation Platform will allow test environments to be extended from lab to field testing and hence will allow prospective customers to more thoroughly plan for integrating Terocelo's True Software Radio technology into their product needs," stated Richard Hahn, Chief Operating Officer of Terocelo.
"Our initial WiMAX Evaluation Platform was received very well. Several companies, including Toyota ITC and Fujitsu Devices, have purchased and been trained on the platform. We are continuing to build on early momentum of Platform sales and are currently responding to interest expressed by leading companies in India, South Korea, Thailand, Australia, and China, as well as here in the United States. This Platform introduces our Lycon chip family and True Software Radio technology. It is an exciting time for Terocelo, and we believe the outlook continues to be strong," said Douglas Morrison, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. Morrison also stated the first Lycon 65nm CMOS WiMAX Evaluation Platform is expected to be released next Spring, with the 65nm CMOS Lycon chip.
