Telesp Celular Signs $340 Million in Contracts with Lucent

Lucent Technologies and Brazils' Telesp Celular signed US$340 in contracts for wireless CDMA networks installation to support subscribers in greater Sao Paulo and selected areas in the interior of the state. The region is the largest wireless market in Brazil.

Lucent is providing its 5ESS AnyMedia switching platform and Autoplex System 1000 Series II cell sites. The digital cell sites for this project will be manufactured at the Lucent manufacturing facility in Campinas, Brazil.

As part of a separate agreement, Telesp Celular is installing two million voice-messaging mailboxes in metropolitan Sao Paulo with Lucent's IMA-CA (Intelligent Messaging Architecture-Caller Applications) voice messaging platform.

June1999 is the projected completion date. Telesp Celular is owned by Portugal Telecom and builds wireless networks based on CDMA in Sao Paulo.
