Teledyne Defence And Space Filters

Source: Teledyne Defense Electronics, LLC

Teledyne Microwave Solutions offers a range of filters for defense and space applications. Filter types include electro-mechanical filters, fixed filters, fast tuned notch filters, and TDS bandpass filters.

Electro-Mechanical Filters

Teledyne Defence & Space’s CB503 is a digitally tuned, electro-mechanical bandpass filter operating across VHF/UHF frequency bands. The core of the CB503 is a high-Q three section, machine combline filter. It has an input/output coupling structure that enables the filter to be tuned to any central frequency in the range of 160MHz to 360MHz whilst maintaining its excellent filter characteristics.

Fixed Filters

Combline Filters

Combline filters, also referred to as cavity filters, are narrowband and used in applications where closely spaced signals need to be separated. Combline filters can be designed for bandwidths of 1% to 50% of the center frequency in the range of 100MHz to 20GHz. By introducing inductive or capacitive cross-coupling between the appropriate nodes, it is possible to either produce attenuation poles in one or both the rejection skirts, or equalize the group delay with linear phase designs. In applications where flat group-delay narrowband filters are required, linear phase responses of typically 1 to 5 ns variations over 70% of the filter bandwidth can be achieved.

Lumped Element Filters

Discrete Lumped Element technology is commonly used in applications where small size is required, especially at lower frequencies where transmission line devices may be too large. Both narrowband and broadband designs are available in highpass, lowpass, bandpass, bandstop and multiplexer form. Teledyne Defence & Space (TDS) pays particular attention to the selection of components and the design of the housing so that parasitic resonances and waveguide modes are suppressed to ensure very broad stopbands. For high powered applications, high voltage capacitors and larger air cored conductors are leveraged by TDS.

Suspended Substrate Filters

The versatility of the printed circuit technology enables designs to be used in very complex mechanical configurations and allows easy integration of other components onto the circuit boards. This technology is also integrated into many of Teledyne Defence’s subsystem products such as switched multiplexers, frequency activity detectors and frequency synthesizers.

Fast Tune Notch Filters

Teledyne Defence & Space’s (TDS) range of fast tune notch filters (FTNF) have been designed to protect Electronic Support Measures (ESM) receivers from high duty cycle, frequency agile interference produced by on board (or cohort) combat radar systems. ESM sensors need protection from high-level frequency-agile radars.
