TCXO/VCTCXO For Military Applications

This precision TCXO/VCTCXO acts as the timing reference in radios, satellite terminals, and handheld test equipment. It is designed for environmentally hostile conditions – operation under vibration and temperature extremes – and with the US military’s Size, Weight, and Power (SWaP) initiative in mind.

The SWaP strategy is intended to increase electronics efficiency to lessen the weight burden on ground troops and reduce bulk and clutter in vehicles. The M616x precision TCXO/VCTCXO (temperature compensated crystal oscillator/voltage controlled temperature compensated crystal oscillator) delivers high shock immunity, low phase noise and tight temperature stability typically available only on larger OCXO designs, all while using about half of the current of earlier solutions.  The M616x brings high accuracy, harsh environment performance while complying with SWaP requirements.

The key spec: vibration immunity is 0.6 ppb/g, achieved through special crystal processing. Available in frequencies from 8-52 MHz and with stability over temperature to ± 0.10 ppm, the M616x Series also offers -156 dBc/Hz typical phase noise at 100 kHz offset.

It’s important to note that while the M616x TCXO/VCTCXO is an ideal military/defense related solution, it is by no means exclusive to that market. It’s also well suited for WLAN, WiMax base stations, medical equipment, test and measurement systems, and frequency translation/synthesizers.
