Stratum 3 TCXO/VCTCXO: M615x Series

Source: MtronPTI

The M615x Series TCXO/VCTCXO (temperature compensated crystal oscillator/voltage controlled temperature compensated crystal oscillator) reduces phase noise and increases stability for Stratum 3 reference clock applications.

Data link transmission errors between servers reduce usable Internet bandwidth. When the link timing system drifts, packets get dropped forcing retransmissions while hardware re-syncs. The M615x series keeps data links up by providing extremely tight stability and low wander over temperature and time, helping carriers get the most out of LTE and increase installed equipment’s efficiency.

These oscillators are available from 8-38.8 MHz and come in a 5 mm x 7 mm, 10 pad leadless ceramic package. They offer 0.34 ppm p-p/24 hrs. -40 °C to +85 °C holdover stability and -156 dBc/Hz @ 100 kHz offset phase noise. Timing holdover specification also includes hysteresis effects.

Applications in the internet/wireless market include:

  • Synchronous Ethernet Slave Clocks
  • ITU-T G.8262 EEC Options 1 & 2
  • Stratum 3 GR-1244Core & CR-253-Core
  • SONET/SDH Network Timing

In summary, with lower phase noise, low g-sensitivity and low drift, the M615x Series Stratum 3 TCXO/VCTXCO is ideal for applications involving SONET/SDH, synchronous Ethernet slave clocks, bench and automated test equipment, or any other application that requires a stable and quiet timing reference source.
