SPX Communication Technology's Dielectric Antenna Installed By Michigan's Interlochen Public Radio

SPX Communication Technology (formerly Dielectric) recently announced that Michigan's Interlochen Public Radio (IPR) has purchased and installed a Dielectric DCR-H4 FM antenna for its WLMN 89.7 station in Manistee.

This is the second DCR-H4 antenna purchased by IPR. The station went on the air in August 2010, and serves an area of approximately 40,000 people.

"We purchased our first Dielectric antenna for WICA 91.5 in Traverse City in 2000, and have been completely satisfied with its performance. So when it came time to purchase an antenna for WLMN, selecting another DCR-H4 was an easy choice," said Jack Conners, IPR chief engineer. "SPX made the specification and ordering process simple for us, kept us apprised of progress throughout production, and delivered the antenna on time. Documentation simplified our assembly and installation. Tuning the DCR-H4 was simple and accurate, and the antenna has performed perfectly since WLMN went live."

The Dielectric DCR-H series is optimized for the Class A and B FM stations seeking superior performance. The series is available in one through eight bays with an input power rating up to 12 kW. Each antenna is supplied with an input fine matcher for field optimization. For environments where ice formation is common, the antennas can be equipped with optional electrical de-icers or radomes. Each DCR-H antenna is available with directional arrays custom built to the needs of the station. Beam tilt and null fill options are available.

"For WLMN, which has a first-adjacent station to the north, the directional pattern is very tight," said Conners. "The engineers at SPX did an exceptional job of maximizing the performance of the DCR-H4's directional pattern. This was a very important aspect of the installation."
