Spinnaker Microwave Launches 2 To 20 GHz Miniature Frequency Synthesizer

Santa Clara, CA -- Spinnaker Microwave, Inc., introduced a new miniature frequency synthesizer that covers 2 to 20 GHz in a rugged machined housing measuring only 2.9 inches x 3.0 inches x 0.7 inches. The device weighs less than 7 ounces and consumes 6 Watts of power.

Spinnaker Microwave's new model SMS-B synthesizer was designed for systems engineers looking for a fast-tuning, multi-octave microwave source in a small and lightweight package. The new synthesizer is specifically designed to meet the harsh environmental requirements of military and industrial equipment including electronic warfare (EW), signal intelligence (SIGINT), and radar test applications. The synthesizer may also meet the many requirements of commercial applications including microwave radio, test, and instrumentation equipment.

Spinnaker Microwave's design utilizes MMIC components including voltage-controlled oscillators (VCOs), multipliers and amplifiers allowing for the reduction in overall package size, minimized parts count and elimination of expensive hand-tuned components. A 16-step programmable loop filter bank ensures settling time speed and phase noise consistency over the entire 2 to 20 GHz bandwidth. Typical performance specifications include -60 dBc spurious, 10 MHz step size, tuning speed less than 50µsec, low phase noise of -80 dBc/Hz @1 and 10 kHz, and less than 6 W total power consumption. MIL-STD-883 testing and MIL-PERF-38534 screening are available. Operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C.
