Spacenet Adds Fixed Wireless To Its Portfolio For Satellite And Hybrid Networks

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Spacenet Inc., one of the world's leading providers of advanced satellite and hybrid networking services for US based business and government customers, today announced that it has added EV-DO, a 3G high-speed wireless data service, to its portfolio of satellite and common carrier broadband services. This new offering enables enterprise and government customers to leverage EV-DO as part of a hybrid network for primary or stand-by communications, or at locations where other wireline alternatives are not available.

In 2004, Spacenet became the first major US satellite service provider to offer hybrid network services that combine the best of both satellite (VSAT) and common carrier technologies, including DSL, cable, frame relay and leased lines. In response to market demand, Spacenet has added EV-DO services to complement its portfolio of hybrid network connectivity options. As part of a hybrid network, EV-DO can serve as primary connectivity or as a "hot stand-by" to a satellite link. In many cases, it can also be used at locations where other wireline connections are not available, providing a wireless broadband alternative to slower dial-up services.

Spacenet hybrid networks enable customers to benefit from cost-effective redundant communications and a diverse physical path, independent of telco networks, that protect against network downtime. Other benefits include 100% nationwide coverage, a flat monthly rate for easier cost management, and a ‘one-stop-shop' for all types of connectivity -- satellite, wireless and wireline.

Spacenet Senior Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development David Myers said, "The constantly evolving requirements of our customers drove the development of Spacenet's satellite and wireline hybrid offerings back in 2004. Once again, Spacenet is responding to input from clients with the introduction of EV-DO as yet another type of last mile connection. We are already working with several long-term customers to integrate the service into their existing satellite networks. This newest addition to our portfolio provides enterprise and government organizations alike with more price/performance choices in a managed wide area network. It also represents an extension of Spacenet's commitment to help our customers continually improve the efficiency and reliability of their critical communications."
