Chelton Microwave Completes Purchase Of Remec Space & Defense
Bolton, MA -- Cobham, a wholly owned subsidiary of Cobham, plc, today announced the completion of its previously announced purchase of REMEC Defense and Space Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of REMEC, Inc. (see related story).
Headquartered in San Diego, the company will remain REMEC Defense and Space (RDS) and operate as a division of Chelton Microwave. RDS employs 1,100 workers primarily located in San Diego, Mexico, and Richardson, TX. The current management team and all of the employees will remain with the business, and operations will continue at the present facilities. Jack Giles will continue as president of RDS. The company develops and manufactures solid-state integrated microwave assemblies (IMA) and subsystems.
REMEC will complement Chelton's line of antenna subsystems and integrated waveguide assemblies. REMEC's solid-state subsystem capability will complement Chelton Solid State's (CSS) capabilities by enhancing CSS's ability to pursue higher levels of assemblies such as transceivers, channelizers, and receivers. Furthermore, REMEC's MMIC design facility in Texas will provide millimeter multilayer transceivers and T/R modules, which will make CMC a viable supplier for high performance antenna front-ends.
The division will report directly into David Gaggin, Chelton Microwave CEO.
"The acquisition of REMEC Defense and Space is a continuation of our strategy to expand our microwave capability into higher levels of integrated microwave assemblies and subsystems in an effort to expand our offerings to our customers," Gaggin said. "This fulfills a long sought after complement to our antenna and passive waveguide business."
Chelton Microwave develops, manufactures, and integrates advanced microwave products for the U.S. and international armed forces, primarily in the field of C4IEW. It is a Chelton Group Company.
