Sequans And Gemtek Partner On LTE

Collaboration to accelerate availability of TD-LTE consumer devices

4G chipmaker Sequans and Gemtek, a leading manufacturer of broadband wireless solutions, announced recently that they have entered into a partnership to speed new LTE consumer devices to market. Gemtek is developing several devices based on Sequans' LTE UE chip, including a compact USB dongle and a desktop CPE. Gemtek and Sequans are readying these and other products for large-scale operator trials beginning in Q1 2011 and for subsequent commercial deployments.

"Gemtek has an outstanding track record in delivering high quality broadband wireless products to market and we are pleased to work with them on these new LTE devices," said Georges Karam, Sequans CEO. "Gemtek's skill is evident in their sleek and compact designs and excellent execution. Our collaboration with Gemtek will yield state-of-the-art LTE consumer devices."

The new devices are based on Sequans' SQN3000 series SOCs, which support up to 100 Mbps throughput and 20 MHz channels, and comply with 3GPP standards.

"Sequans was one of the first providers of TD-LTE chips, and by working closely with them we will make LTE end-user devices quickly available to operators," said James Ting, GM, Broadband Wireless Business Unit, Gemtek. "We are extremely excited about the prospects for the LTE market, and are happy to partner with Sequans, a technology leader in the 4G industry."
