Semtech Adds Flexible IEEE1588v2 Slave Device To Synchronization Platform

CAMARILLO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced the expansion of its ToPSync™ product platform with the availability of the ACS9550, an IEEE1588v2 precision time protocol (PTP) packet clock slave device that eases the move away from leased line access to cheaper Ethernet-based wireless backhaul.

This flexibility makes the ACS9550 appropriate for a wide variety of time sensitive packet backhaul technologies. It provides a network clock and time accuracy of up to 1 us for circuit emulation services, IP-based backhaul that replaces T1/E1 circuits and for services that need a highly precise signal (1PPS) that can be aligned with the timebase of a Grandmaster clock in next generation wireless networks such as TD-SCDMA, WiMax, LTE and 4G.

The ACS9550 provides multiple output clocks to supply different needs in the end equipment such as synchronous Ethernet clocking, RF synthesizer input clocks and framing clocks all in one monolithic slave device.

The ACS9550 is an integrated device with a wide range of inputs, and an embedded microprocessor that delivers IEEE1588 slave functionality, clock recovery and high precision timestamping with on-the-fly insertion. Combining PTP protocol with Semtech's patented packet delay filtering algorithms, the ACS9550 automatically adapts to changes in packet delay variation and network reconfiguration, allowing the IC to maintain required timing performance across an IP network without the need for changes to switches or routers.

Semtech's complete IEEE1588 PTP product family also includes the ACS9510, an all-in-one platform combining PTP Grandmaster and slave functionality along with SONET/SDH clock device, and the ACS9593, a high-precision slave device designed for deployment in wireless base stations for IP-based wireless backhaul applications.

"As IP networks become more ubiquitous in carrier networks, there will be more need to provide clock synchronization services where TDM and IP come together and now Semtech offers the industry's most complete precision timing solution," said Rich Lansdowne, Product Group Manager at Semtech. "The ACS9550 device is an asset to telecommunications manufacturers, providing a fully integrated and cost-effective solution with very high precision."
