Satellite Signal Interference And Carrier ID (CID) Solutions

By Philippe Hostiou and Gerard Faria, TeamCast

The main issue in the quality of service for satellite transmissions, especially in occasional use transmissions and temporary feeder links, is RF interference from sources like “rogue pirate carriers,” and failed or improperly configured equipment. Some of the actions taken to thwart interference include installer and operator training, data sharing, and Carrier Identification (CID). Carrier ID is a process that is implemented at the physical level inside the satellite modulator, as well as at the system level where all CID must be identified in one database shared between all satellite operators. Download this paper for an explanation of the DVB-CID standard, the different types of processes involved in CID, and an overview of the CID receiver from TeamCast's solutions.
