Richardson RFPD Introduces New 1 MHz To 2.5 GHz UltraCMOS RF Digital Step Attenuator From Peregrine

UltraCMOS quad MOSFET mixer designed for LMR and cellular infrastructure applications

Richardson RFPD, Inc. announced recently the availability and full design support capabilities for a new UltraCMOS digital step attenuator (DSA) from Peregrine Semiconductor Corporation.

The PE4314 is a 75Ω HaRP technology-enhanced, 6-bit RF DSA that operates from 1 MHz to 2.5 GHz and features glitch-less attenuation state transitions and low distortion. It supports 1.8V control voltage and an extended operating temperature range up to +105 °C, making it versatile for a range of wired broadband applications, including DOCSIS 3.1/0, satellite and fiber customer premises equipment (CPE) and infrastructure.

The new DSA is a pin-compatible upgraded version of Peregrine’s PE4304, PE4307, PE4308 and PE43404. An integrated digital control interface supports serial and parallel programming of the attenuation, including the capability to program an initial attenuation state at power-up. The PE4314 covers a 31.5 dB attenuation range in 0.5 dB steps. It is capable of maintaining 0.5 dB monotonicity through 2.5 GHz. No external blocking capacitors are required if 0 VDC is present on the RF ports.

The PE4314 is manufactured on Peregrine’s UltraCMOS process, a patented variation of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) technology on a sapphire substrate. It is offered in a 20-lead, 4 mm x 4 mm x 0.85 mm QFN package.
