RF Monolithics, Inc. Announces New Wholly Owned Subsidiary - RFM Technologies, Inc.

Dallas -- RF Monolithics, Inc. announced the formation of RFM Technologies, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary. RFM Technologies, Inc. will be a vehicle to assist RFM in carrying out its strategic plan to assemble wireless solutions with products, technologies, and applications composed of a wide range of radio modules, gateways, wireless sensor networks, point-to-point and mesh network protocols with development tools.

David M. Kirk, President and CEO of RFM commented, "RFM Technologies, Inc. was formed to invest in technology companies and end-user application providers of highly integrated wireless solutions. RFM Technologies, Inc. will be a key building block to achieve our goal of combining a solution focused, technology neutral philosophy and our extensive experience at all levels of wireless technology to the intricate business of successfully deploying technology in real world environments. Successful wireless systems are a balance of numerous parameters that directly determine important operating characteristics of the system. These parameters include range between nodes, battery life, data throughput, standards compliance, ability to "self-heal" after a partial network failure, interference tolerance, and a system's ability to scale to a given size.

"Building wireless systems to perform well in a given application requires matching these parameters, including both hardware and software elements, to the unique characteristics of the requirement. No single technology can address all potential applications. Only by understanding the full range of technologies available, with all their strengths, weaknesses, and peculiarities can the most appropriate solution be developed."

Mr. Kirk further commented, "There has been a surge of interest in applying wireless technology to a wide range of industrial monitoring, control, and sensor applications. RFM was one of the first to identify the potential of wireless systems for these diverse applications and the need to simplify integration of them while increasing performance and flexibility.

"We expect that wireless solutions will be applied to almost every possible market sector as the benefits and possibilities of wireless sensor networks become more fully understood by more industries. Many suppliers of wireless products and applications are developing ways to leverage wireless technology with much more sophistication and expansive applications. For example, newer deployments of wireless networks create extensive ad-hoc networks of wireless sensors and control nodes, connected by new advanced wireless network protocols. Often customers looking to use low power, RF wireless technology lack the skills necessary to implement an optimized solution. These customers are looking for vendors who can provide integrated wireless subsystems or complete solutions that are integrated. RFM expects to be at the forefront of vendors supplying these customers with the most comprehensive line of wireless and sensor technologies at any level of integration, from chips and components to complete turn-key systems."
