RF And Microwave Fiber Optic Delay Line Techniques

RF And Microwave Fiber Optic Delay Line Techniques

By Eastern OptX

There are multiple approaches used for delay line applications and construction. Traditionally, RF and microwave delay line technology requires long, bulky electrical transmission lines for a precise duration of electrical signal delays. Other delay line techniques consist of multiple energy transfer methods such as the generation of acoustic waves with crystal or glass substrates. More recent advancements utilize analog-to-digital converters to convert the signal to digital data, store it in deep memory, and reconvert it to an analog signal with a digital-to-analog converter. Eastern OptX has developed an alternative delay line technology using fiber coils. Download the full application note for an in-depth explanation of the fiber optic delay line technology from Eastern OptX, and how it reduces insertion loss and improves signal quality.
