Radiocrafts Announces Sigfox Module With Integrated Sensor Interfaces

Radiocrafts latest Sigfox modules offer built in sensor interfaces for fast time to market and compact designs, offering higher ROI to our customers, by reducing the BoM and design time significantly.

Radiocrafts AS, a leading provider of RF modules and wireless connectivity solutions, announced recently two new Sigfox modules, both with integrated sensor interfaces. The new modules are ideal for making a Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) with wireless sensors.

The RC1682-SSM and RC1692HP-SSM are both an expansion of the RC1682-SIG and RC1692HP-SIG modules released in 2015. The RC1682 support Radio Zone 1 (e.g. Europe) and the RC1692HP supports Radio Zone 2 (e.g. Americas) and Radio Zone 4 (e.g. Oceania). The proven Sigfox modem is complemented by a dedicated interface for a number of industrial and environmental sensors. The sensors are carefully selected to enable customers to build complete sensor nodes by just adding the sensor, an antenna and a power supply to the compact SSM module.

“The sensor interface modules add significant value and benefit to our customers by removing the need for an external microcontroller to manage the sensors” says Anders Oldebäck, Sales and Marketing Director, Radiocrafts. “We see this as a major step in making IOT remote sensor networking a task that does not require specialist competence, and also a major step in reducing the overall system cost for the customers.

Sensor interfaces supported includes analogue inputs, GPIO and I2C.

The sensor interface modules are the first dedicated modules in our sensor-to-cloud strategy. The first step was the demo done with our MPC1 module and the IOT expansion board, together with an FX-30 Gateway from Sierra Wireless, where we have demonstrated connectivity from a pulse counting sensor on a Wireless M-Bus MPC1 module to an Amazon Web server”.

The compact surface mount modules, which measure only 12.7 x 25.4 mm, are delivered in tape and reel packaging. Samples and Developments Kits are available now.
