Proxim Provides Wireless Networking Technology for MIPPS' Enterprise-Focused Wireless DSL Service Across Canada
SUNNYVALE, Calif - Proxim Inc., the leader in wirefree broadband networking, has been selected by MIPPS Inc., a provider of wireless Internet access services, to provide wireless networking capabilities for its DSL customers across Canada. Through the deal, MIPPS' small to medium-sized business customers will receive wireless access across their corporate environments through the Proxim Harmony family of products in conjunction with DSL access through Rhythms Canada Inc., a leading Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) alternative service provider in Canada.

With this solution, businesses will enjoy high-speed Internet connectivity anywhere they roam within their facility; simple, low-cost network installation and management; and easy network updates. Proxim Harmony makes it simple for small and medium-sized businesses, which often have limited IT resources, to install a network. Proxim Harmony access points are automatically configured while the network is managed through a familiar, Web-based interface. The network investment is protected because Harmony's patented SmartArchitecture supports all leading wireless standards, including IEEE 802.11b, OpenAir, 10 Mbps frequency hopping and future 5 GHz technologies, and the network can be easily updated or expanded.

"We are extremely excited that we have been able to bring together Proxim and Rhythms Canada to provide a reliable, innovative and cost effective national wireless service. We chose to offer our services with Proxim's wireless products because our customers demand reliable, cost-effective connectivity that can grow with their businesses-which is just what Harmony delivers," explained Sharon Prizant, president of MIPPS Inc. "In addition, Harmony is the only wireless office infrastructure that allows multiple wireless standards to work together in the same network, so we can offer our customers maximum flexibility as their connectivity needs grow."

"We're very pleased to be working with Rhythms Canada and MIPPS Inc. to accelerate the adoption of DSL and wireless networking in the small and medium-sized business market," said Lynn Chroust, director of Proxim's Commercial Networks Business Unit. "By uniting MIPPS Inc. DSL service and Proxim Harmony, customers across Canada will receive fast access to information with the flexibility and cost-savings of a wireless infrastructure."

"We're seeing strong adoption of DSL in the business environment in Canada, and adding wireless will make DSL even more attractive to the small to medium-sized business," said Norbert Dawalibi, president and CEO of Rhythms Canada. "The combined speed, security and flexibility of a Proxim wireless network is a perfect fit with our high-speed service."
