The Maury A042A precision connector gage kit provides a fast and accurate means of checking the center contact and dielectric locations of female SMP connectors, and the center contact location of male SMP connectors. The kit is used to ensure that the center contact pins are properly aligned and do not protrude (resulting in a destructive interference fit) or are not recessed (degrading electrical performance) beyond the connectors' specified tolerances.
Precision SMP connectors are built to extremely tight tolerances to provide the best possible electrical performance and avoid potential damage to the interface structures. Specified interface dimensions are critical to achieving proper co-planar mating at the outer conductor mating plane, and must be maintained to ensure repeatability and optimum electrical performance. When the gap between the center contacts of mated connectors exceeds tolerance it degrades electrical performance, produces high signal reflection, and can cause catastrophic failure under high power conditions. When the center contact pins protrude beyond tolerance they push each other out of alignment, and may cause buckling of the female contact fingers, chipping of the male contact, or other physical damage to associated structures.
To avoid costly equipment or system breakdowns, and ensure that your test and measurement operations are accurate and repeatable, always inspect, clean, and gage your connectors before mating.
