Phase Matrix Introduces A Family Of PXI RF/MW Down Converter Modules

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Phase Matrix, Inc. announced today the product introduction of their family of PXI RF/microwave (RF/MW) down converter modules, which were developed in support of a Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program sponsored by the Navy (Navair PMA 260D). The complete module set will be demonstrated this week at Autotestcon 2008 in Salt Lake City. The module family consists of five (5) PXI (3U) modules that can be configured into any one of six (6) primary configurations operating over the frequency range of 100 KHz to 2.9 GHz, 2.7 to 26.5 GHz, and 100 KHz to 26.5 GHz. The modules, which comprise the family, are the RF Input Conditioner Module (RFICM), Microwave Band Input Module (MBIM), Low Band Input Module (LBIM), Local Oscillator Module (LOM), and the IF Output Conditioner Module (IFOCM).

The primary benefit of employing these modules is that they can be utilized in support of small form factor portable/transportable synthetic instrument test systems that can be programmed to perform the RF/MW signal analysis function or emulate older or obsolete instruments. The family of modules employs programmable input signal conditioning in the form of pre-selection filtering in the 2.7 to 26.5 GHz frequency range with bandwidths of 40 MHz min to 120 MHz max and an input attenuator that can be programmed from 0 to 70 dB in 10 dB steps. Local oscillator switching speed is less than 1 mSec. The PXI down converter family provides rapid RF/MW frequency translation and RF/MW measurement capability when operated in tandem with PXI Express digitizers/controllers and digital signal processing (DSP) software. The down converter family operates in both narrowband IF (21.4 MHz IF: selectable 30 KHz and 8 MHz bandwidths) and wideband IF (250 MHz IF: 350 MHz bandwidth) modes depending on the resolution bandwidth needs of the user.

Eric Starkloff, National Instruments Director of Product Marketing, stated, "The Phase Matrix family of RF/MW down converter modules provides a key capability that extends the application of the PXI industry standard." Mr. Starkloff also stated that, "NI looks forward to working with both Phase Matrix and BAE Systems in our joint initiative in applying Phase Matrix technology in support of both commercial and U.S. Department of Defense Synthetic Instrument applications."

Michael N. Granieri, Phase Matrix VP of Advanced Programs/Business Development, stated that the PMI family of PXI down converter modules will be available for delivery in Q1 2009. The modules are intended for use with NI LabVIEW, NI Modulation Toolkit, NI Spectral Analysis Toolkit, or user-provided DSP software employing the LabVIEW FPGA Module.
