NEC Restructures Operations, Cuts 400 Positions
NEC Electronics has announced a corporate restructuring effort designed to make the company more market driven, customer focused, and cost-effective. As a result of this change, NEC will eliminate about 400 positions across the US. This includes reductions at the company's corporate headquarters in Santa Clara, CA and manufacturing facility in Roseville, CA.
NEC says slumps in the semiconductor market led to the restructuring plan. In addition, the company says that new direction has become a priority because customer demands have shifted to requiring more service and support, resulting from their increased demand for system-level integration solutions.
Despite restructuring, NEC will continue construction on a $1.4 billion G-Line manufacturing facility in Roseville. This facility is expected to go online in 2002.
