NEC Announces RF Switch For NFC, Combo Bluetooth + Wi-Fi, And ZigBee/802.15.4 Applications

UPG2405T6Q

NEC is now shipping its UPG2405T6Q RF switch, available through California Eastern Laboratories (CEL). The UPG2405T6Q is a compact Gallium Arsenide Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit Single Pole Triple Throw switch (GaAs MMIC SP3T).

Unique Design Supports Extended Wireless Applications

The UPG2405T6Q RF switch is designed for a multitude of wireless applications, including Near Field Communications (NFC), RFID, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and ZigBee/802.15.4. Because of its unusually rare ability to support very low frequencies down to 10 MHz, the switch can support NFC and RFID wireless systems which use these low bands, while still scaling up to support higher frequency bands for other applications.

With its triple-throw design and low insertion loss characteristics, the UPG2405T6Q RF switch can support Bluetooth and Wi-Fi devices, even in the same module. Such combo products are becoming more common as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth get adopted together in laptops, netbooks, printers, smart phones, and other handheld wireless devices. These switches are also applicable in ZigBee/802.15.4 products for automatic meter reading, wireless security, cable replacement, and lighting systems in both commercial and residential buildings.

Small Size Enables Embedded Designs

The device's small package size and low height at 2.0 x 1.35 x 0.4 mm is rare for a triple throw switch of such high performance and further helps enable embedded small form factor wireless designs.
