MTT-S 2008: Ultra-Low Phase Noise Microwave Opto-Electronic Oscillator Module Introduced

Pasadena, CA - OEwaves, Inc. offers a high performance microwave oscillator module that generates reference signals in the X-band with ultra-low phase noise, in a package measured 4.5 x 5.9 x 0.79 inches. The unique design is based on patented photonic generation of spectrally pure signals at microwave frequencies.

OEwaves' novel OEO technology will address critical needs for enhancing current and future high performance microwave communication and radar systems. The compact OEO offers a typical phase noise performance of -145 dBc/Hz at 10kHz offset from the carrier at 10 GHz. It is available in a variety of features and options, including phase locking to an external reference, an optical output for reference distribution over fiber, and low vibration/acceleration sensitivity.

"The compact OEO not only offers significant improvement in system performance, but can also reduce system complexity and cost not achievable with any other existing oscillator technology." said David Seidel, VP of Product Development at OEwaves, Inc. "It builds upon state-of-the-art micro-optic techniques and achieves exceptional performance in a compact form factor."

The demand for ultra-low phase noise microwave oscillators extends beyond high end defense radar and communication system requirements. This level of performance will enable enhanced test & measurement systems, as well as allow manufacturers to architect capabilities to address new markets.
