MOBEX COMMUNICATIONS EXPANDS MIDWESTERN OPERATIONS

Mobex Acquires Indianapolis-based Communications Maintenance; Names New Regional Vice President in Fort Wayne-based Regional Headquarters

FORT WAYNE, Ind., Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/-- Mobex Communications, one of the nation's fastest growing provider of two-way radio systems, has acquired Indianapolis-based Communications Maintenance, Inc. The acquisition for Mobex's Commercial Services sector gives Communications Maintenance's customers access to larger, more advanced specialized mobile radio and paging communications networks along Indiana's major transportation routes as well as access to additional communications networks throughout the United States. This expansion follows on the heels of Mobex's recent acquisition of D & L Communications in Fort Wayne.

With the acquisition of Communications Maintenance, Mobex gains additional market locations for equipment sales and service. Mobex sought Communications Maintenance because its service offerings complement and expand Mobex's existing business in Indiana as well as expand its reach into two new markets.

"Indiana is an important midwestern market. We selected CMI because it significantly enhances our strategy to grow the established business for our Commercial Services sector as well as to move us into new markets, and it compliments the services and resources we provide in Fort Wayne," said Frank Casazza, president and CEO for Mobex Communications. "The company has a strong history of profitability and the proven ability to develop high-end service contracts."

In addition to the enlarged wireless communications footprint, Mobex gains satellite offices in Indiana markets that include Columbus, Kokomo and Evansville. The acquisition also establishes a Mobex presence in Communications Maintenance's other market, Little Rock, Ark. The satellite office will focus on the service, installation and repair of two-way radio and base stations.

"By adding the assets and resources of CMI to our Commercial Services sector, we are providing all of our customers with the most efficient communications services available. We're offering them a more convenient, cost-effective way to manage their business communications," Casazza said. "With our combined SMR and paging offering and the expanded service areas these acquisitions bring, we're able to customize communications services and equipment packages to meet all of our customers' business communications needs."

As part of Mobex's midwestern expansion, Marty Cayton has been named vice president and general manager for that region. Cayton joined Mobex Communications in 1995 when it purchased North Carolina Communications. Based at Mobex's regional headquarters in Fort Wayne, Ind., he will be responsible for managing Mobex's largest commercial services division. He also will be responsible for Mobex's wholesale distribution business.

In a related move, D & L Communications' former senior managers have been promoted to key roles at Mobex's corporate level. Tom Murphy, director of marketing programs, is responsible for the development of existing and new business. Kevin Stock, manager of marketing partnerships, is responsible for creating and maintaining strategic marketing relationships. Kevin Hamil, manager of purchasing and acquisition integration, is responsible for finalizing relationships with Mobex dealers and for integrating the acquired companies into the Mobex organization. All three will remain in Fort Wayne.

"We believe Tom Murphy, Kevin Stock and Kevin Hamil represent the best range of experience and talent available in the radio communications industry," Casazza said. "With their move into the corporate ranks, we are building a solid foundation that will grow our core business."
