Irvine, CA - Microsemi Corporation, a leading manufacturer of high performance analog mixed signal integrated circuits and high reliability semiconductors, has announced the release of a new 500W power transistor for TACAN avionics transmitters.

Designated the TAN500, the new transistor is designed to extend Microsemi's series of high power transistors for TACAN avionics applications.

"Customers are continually looking for higher power transistors for TACAN applications. The challenge for the device supplier is to provide such a device which can cover the broad bandwidth and heavy pulsing requirements for TACAN transmitters," said Russell Crecraft, General Manager, Power Products Group in Bend, Oregon. "Microsemi has met that challenge with the TAN500. The customer can now greatly simplify the design of KW transmitters," he added.

The TAN500 provides 500W of output power at 960-1215MHz with 10 microseconds, 10% pulsing from a maximum input power of 70W. This Class C biased, bipolar transistor runs on Vcc = 50V making it easy to use with existing power supplies running on 50-52V. The die utilizes gold metallization and integral emitter ballast resistors for maximum reliability.

Production quantities are available immediately through authorized distributors or direct from the factory.

Microsemi will feature the TAN500 during MTT-S 2008 in Atlanta, GA on June 15 - 20, at booth #528.
