White Paper: Low Cost Networks -- ZigBee And 802.15.4
Source: Nordic Semiconductor ASA
This paper attempts to help draw the distinction between IEEE 802.15.4 functionality and the ZigBee protocol stack. This is highlighted by the fact that typically, IEEE 802.15.4 is implemented in hardware on a transceiver device, whereas ZigBee is implemented on a medium-scale microcontroller in addition to the transceiver.
