LMDS System Developer Secures Additional Financing

Ensemble Communications has closed its second round of venture financing. During this round, the company gained an additional $13.12 million in venture capital funding.

Three new investors—Crescendo Ventures, ADC Telecommunications, and Trinity Ventures—provided funding to Ensemble. Enterprise Partners and Institutional Venture Partners, Ensembles two existing investors, also contributed funding to the broadband wireless system company.

Ensemble will use its new funding to continue development of an adaptive Internet protocol (IP) point-to-multipoint system for broadband wireless applications such as Local Multipoint Distribution Services (LMDS). These systems will enable wireless operators to offer local-area network (LAN)/wide-area network (WAN) connectivity, high-speed data access, Internet connectivity, telecommuting services, and videoconferencing over their broadband networks.

Established in 1997, Ensemble is currently working with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners to develop its broadband wireless access products. Field trials are planned for later in 1999.
