Live From IMS2011: New Wideband PLL + VCO From Hittite Achieves -110 dBc/Hz In-Band Phase Noise

Hittite Microwave applications engineer Greg Bachmanek demonstrates the company's flagship wideband PLL + VCO product, the HMC830LP6GE, which made its debut at IMS2011. This new device is a fractional-n PLL (phase-locked loop) with an integrated VCO (voltage-controlled oscillator) covering 25 to 3000 MHz. Bachmanek shows its performance on a demo board using an Agilent phase noise analyzer, measuring real-time, in-band phase noise at -110 dBc, far-out phase noise approaching -170 dBc, and overall integrated phase noise at -59 dBc all at 2 GHz.
