Litton Wins $27 Million US Navy Contract for Navigation Systems

The US Navy Naval Sea Systems Command has awarded Litton Marine Systems Inc. (Charlottesville, VA), a subsidiary of Litton Industries Inc. (Woodland Hills, CA), a $27 million-plus contract for the production of AN/WSN-7 Inertial Navigation Systems for US Navy surface ships and submarines.

The contract calls for Litton to deliver 33 shipsets of the AN/WSN-7 equipment, with deliveries scheduled for the next one to two years. The systems are slated for installation on DDG 51 and SSN 774 class newbuilds, and CG 47, DDG 51, CVN, and SSN 688 class backfits.

The AN/WSN-7 is a Ring Laser Gyro Inertial Navigation System that computes ship's precise position, velocity, attitude, heading, and rates in digital and analog formats. The equipment provides increased performance and reliability and is a replacement for the current gyro navigation equipment used on American warships. The system has been tested and verified to meet all military specification (Mil-Spec) environmental requirements.
