Litton Team to Produce Guidance Set for Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System

The team of Guidance & Control System Division of Litton Industries Inc. (Woodland Hills, CA) and Alliant Techsystems (Hopkins, MN) will design and produce the guidance set for the Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) program by prime contractor Lockheed Martin Vought Systems (Dallas).

The contract value to Litton for the engineering model development phase is $10.4 million with firm initial-production options valued at up to as much as $100 million. The US Army plans to procure more than 80,000 GMLRS rockets for a full production potential of $1 billion. The guidance set constitutes about 40% of the total rocket cost.

The GMLRS guidance set consists of the Litton LN-200G fiber-optic inertial guidance system and Alliant Techsystem's GPS sensor, electronics safing and arming device, and power converter. Lockheed Martin Vought Systems, under a four-year cooperative multinational program, consisting of the US Army, the UK, Germany, France, and Italy, is developing the GMLRS.
