San Francisco -- IEEE MTT-S International Microwave Symposium -- K&L Microwave, Inc., part of Dover Corporation's Microwave Products Group, has announced the availability of a family of microwave filters designed specifically to support original equipment manufacturers compliance with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) mandate to relocate incumbent Broadcast Auxiliary Service (BAS), Cable Television Relay Service (CARS), and Local Television Transmission Service (LTTS) licensees operating within frequency ranges of 1990 to 2110 MHz.

The 30-month frequency re-banding effort, which launched on August 6, 2004, will be conducted on a regional market basis starting with TV service providers in the most densely populated U.S. cities. It requires that all eligible licensees convert from the present 17-MHz channel plan to a new FCC-mandated 12-MHz channel plan that will operate from 2025 to 2110 MHz.

"The re-banding issue came about as a result of signal interferences seen in lower frequency spectrums thus causing a need to vacate higher frequency spectrums to allow for operator separation," says John Griffith, strategic account manager commercial products.

To help mitigate such potentially dangerous signal interference, K&L has responded by offering broadcast engineers a family of microwave filters. The family features a full-band filter that passes from 2025 to 2110 MHz, a narrow-band (12-MHz-wide) channel filter that operates from 2031.5 to 2103.5 MHz, and a high-pass filter that passes from 2 GHz up to 18 GHz.

K&L also can customize the mounting configuration and packaging for each one of its filters. For instance, the company can manufacture filters for operating environments beyond that of use within a remote vehicle. This includes reliable functionality for operation outdoors where resistance to rain, humidity, and heat is essential.

"K&L has taken the lead within the television space, developing a microwave filter that offers an interference solution specifically geared to address the FCC's BAS, CARS, and LTTS re-banding effort," says Griffith. "Our longstanding position as the premier provider of microwave filter solutions for military and commercial applications means that TV broadcast clients can rest assured knowing that they are getting the most reliable products, innovative and trusted engineering, and best-in-class customer service the industry has to offer."
