EPC Power, a leader in utility-scale power conversion, has partnered with Wolfspeed to launch the “M” inverter, an innovative modular solution designed to revolutionize energy storage. Built with Wolfspeed’s 2300 V silicon carbide WolfPACK™ power module, the “M” inverter offers superior efficiency, power density, and reliability compared to traditional central inverters.

This modular string-style inverter combines the flexibility of smaller inverters used in residential solar systems with the scale necessary for utility-level energy storage. The modular approach simplifies installation, reduces maintenance, and improves system uptime by minimizing points of failure. With fewer passive components, the inverter offers a wider operating range for both AC and DC voltages and is optimized for seamless deployment across multiple energy storage sites.

By shifting from a complex three-level to a simpler two-level power conversion system, EPC dramatically reduced system size, cost, and development time. The “M” inverter bridges the gap between two architectures, delivering reliable grid-tied energy storage for LEO/MEO/GEO satellite systems, renewable energy storage, and other power-intensive applications.

Wolfspeed’s silicon carbide technology also extends the inverter’s lifespan, thanks to enhanced resistance against cosmic ray failures, resulting in lower maintenance costs and greater reliability over time.
