Integrated WiMAX SoC Platform And RF-To-Digital Baseband Transceivers Enable Range Of Powerful WiMAX Femto, Pico And Micro Base Stations And Relays

CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio--(BUSINESS WIRE)--DesignArt Networks, the leading provider of SoC silicon platforms driving the 4G radio network infrastructure, today announced the completion of a full system integration with its DAN2400 SoC platform and Analog Devices' WiMAX/WiBRO RF MxFE™ MISO transceivers. A reference design based on Analog Devices' AD9354 and AD9355 RF transceivers is now available as part of DesignArt Networks' DAN2400 reference design family and software package.

"The DAN2400 is a flexible SoC platform for WiMAX base stations and relays. It provides the most comprehensive baseband SoC solution available to equipment vendors, offering a single development platform for any type of WiMAX infrastructure product. The DAN 2400 renders a single-chip MAC and Smart-PHY implementation, with embedded support for up to six antenna paths," said Assaf Touboul, CTO of DesignArt Networks. "Combined with Analog Devices' RF transceivers, a single DAN2400 provides a range of ultra-compact design options, spanning from cost-effective indoor Femto- and pico cells to powerful outdoor micro base stations, all of which support integrated zero-cost backhaul capabilities."

"As the wireless industry has moved to more advanced modulation schemes, such as OFDMA in fourth-generation systems like WiMAX, Analog Devices has adapted its core RF, mixed signal and systems IC technology to enable customers and partners to develop small, high-performance products with aggressive price targets," said Tom Gratzek, product line director for WiMAX Transceivers. "Analog Devices' applications engineering team worked with DesignArt Networks to optimize the performance of its AD9354 and AD9355 RF-to-baseband WiMAX transceivers together with DesignArt's DAN2400 SoC platform. As these common solutions are deployed, ADI will provide local support to joint customers."

Analog Devices, Inc. The ADI RF IC portfolio covers the entire RF signal chain. Using a unique combination of design skills, system understanding, and process technologies, Analog Devices offers the broadest portfolio of radio frequency (RF) ICs covering the entire RF signal chain from industry-leading high-performance RF function blocks to highly integrated single-chip transceiver solutions. The RF function blocks include direct digital synthesizers (DDS), phase-locked loop synthesizers (PLLs), TruPwr™ power detectors and logarithmic amplifiers, X-AMP® variable gain amplifiers (VGAs), RF amplifiers such as PAs and LNAs, mixers, and direct conversion modulator and demodulator products.

DesignArt Networks, Ltd., is the leading supplier of system-on-chip (SoC) solutions driving the evolution of the 4G radio network infrastructure towards high-capacity, high-density deployments with ubiquitous outdoor and indoor coverage. Current DesignArt products are based on the mobile WiMAX standard, IEEE 802.16e-2005, offering single-chip solutions for any type and form factor of base and relay station. DesignArt is the first and only WiMAX silicon vendor to fully integrate all base station processing systems, enhanced with high-capacity backhaul, relay and cluster capabilities, into a single-chip SoC platform. DesignArt offers the most compact and powerful design options to equipment manufacturers, enabling them to build the widest range of WiMAX femto, pico, micro and multi-sector macro base stations, including multi-media relay and WiMAX cluster solutions. Zero-cost in-band backhaul solutions drastically lower the total cost of ownership (TCO) for operators, and are the catalyst to accelerated WiMAX and 4G deployments.
