Infineon Launches Contactless Memory Chips For Access Control, Transport, Ticketing And NFC
Neubiberg, Germany - Prior to the RFID Journal Live! Show in Las Vegas this week, Infineon Technologies AG announced the availability of two new contactless memory chips for access control, transport, ticketing and Near Field Communication (NFC) applications. Based on the global standard ISO 14443 and ISO 18092, the new Infineon memory chips are used for applications such as building access, event ticketing and fare collection. The design of the new my-d proximity 2 and my-d NFC memory chips shortens the communication time between the card and reader by up to 40%, allowing higher throughput and faster speeds.
Developed for the emerging NFC market, the my-d NFC is ideally suited for NFC tags or ticketing. The my-d NFC includes a larger storage capacity of up to 4 kByte for new applications like 'smart' posters. These features will enable ‘smart' advertisements to be available without radio access, such as for underground systems. The my-d NFC also supports the Tag Operation Type 2 protocol for the upcoming NFC market.
"By flashing your NFC phone in front of an Infineon NFC tag, you will be able to download large amounts of information quickly and offline – free of charge," said Dr. Tilo Pannenbäcker, Director for Personal and Object ID at Infineon Technologies AG.
The new generation of my-d proximity 2 is based on a cryptographic algorithm with 64- bit key length and a flexible memory structure including combinations of plain and secure sectors. The memory size ranges from 1kByte to 4 kByte, enabling multi- application scenarios such as transportation, ticketing and loyalty schemes on one card. The my-d proximity 2 addresses the needs for access cards or time- and value-limited tickets that are built on basic security concepts.
"Access control, ticketing and public transport systems have been operating for many years with memory cards that offer basic security at affordable prices. Our new my-d proximity 2 offers the best basic security at a competitive price," Dr. Tilo Pannenbäcker continued. "For operators that strive for higher security levels, Infineon offers a comprehensive range of security controllers with certification up to EAL5+."
