For more than 20 years, one of the fields in which IDS Ingegneria Dei Sistemi has been involved is the design, prototyping and analysis of a large variety of specialized high technology and high performance antennas, from VHF to millimeter wave antennas.
Custom solutions that IDS have developed include integrated conformal antennas for medium sized unmanned aerial vehicles, for both data link and remote control, a range of specialized radar antennas and arrays, ultra wide-band antennas and antennas for various GNSS applications such as ground facility monitoring stations for the GPS and Galileo constellations.
IDS’s COTS antennas consist of communication antennas for unmanned aerial system ground stations as well as multi-constellation antenna systems for professional GNSS applications including SBAS ranging and integrity monitoring stations and GBAS/LAAS stations.
IDS is able to support the antenna development process from start to finish, from the initial analysis of the requirements and the choice of the type of solution, a step which greatly benefits from IDS’s extensive experience of advanced antenna design, all the way to the optimal installation of a finished system in an operational environment. This includes the use of specially developed modeling, synthesis and optimization tools such as Galileo-EMT for the design of an antenna or array, concurrent mechanical and thermal design, and the use of circuit board plotters to create RF circuit breadboards during antenna prototyping. It also includes the capacity to perform electromagnetic performance assessments in IDS’s EM measurement chamber with a range of specialized custom and COTS instruments and tools.
