Pisa, Italy, - IDS Ingegneria Dei Sistemi S.p.A. has signed an Original Equipment Manufacturer - OEM Agreement with Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Digital Factory Division and leading global provider of Product Lifecycle Management - PLM and Manufacturing Operations Management - MOM software.

The new technological partnership with Siemens PLM Software will extend IDS products and competence into the whole range of high frequency ElectroMagnetic - EM applications, from equipment and systems to complete product scenarios. This includes autonomous cars and the Internet of Things - IoT, which broadens IDS’s traditional Aerospace & Defence markets.

“The cores of this partnership are that Siemens PLM Software will not only leverage the Galileo Suite (IDS EM simulation software), but will also take advantage of IDS engineering expertise/experience in EM physical testing and simulation – said Massimo Garbini, Chief Executive Officer of IDS Ingegneria Dei Sistemi S.p.A. -. IDS’s electromagnetic engineering competences fit perfectly into the Siemens PLM Software vision where engineering competence is based on simulation software, physical testing capabilities and engineering know-how. This matches IDS’s long term experience in high frequency electromagnetic science and technologies.

IDS offers scalable solutions: from EM engineering encompassing performance optimization of radiating devices/systems in the broad fields of communications and sensing, to the detailed modelling including performance, assessment of such devices on platforms and in complex working scenarios. This approach is perfectly suited to emerging markets such as Industrial Internet of Things (communication environment and sensors) transportation and automotive (radars, antennas, electrical powertrain EMI/EMC and other Advanced Driver Assistance System - ADAS applications), where the electromagnetic knowledge is a force multiplier for product design and operations.

“Today, our customers are developing products which are incorporating more Electronics, relying more on electric propulsion (electrification), embedding sophisticated software, all in a complex mechanical environment. For example, airplanes are being developed based on electric or hybrid propulsion, giving rise to EMC/EMI issues. Autonomous vehicles are being equipped with radars to detect obstacles and to maneuver smoothly in the environment. Making sure that such systems are operating reliably and with high performance calls for electromagnetic engineering. The partnership with IDS provides Siemens with best-in-class capability for High Frequency Electromagnetics simulation,” explains Jan Leuridan, Senior Vice-President, Simulation & Test Solutions at Siemens PLM.
