HNS Starts Work on Satellite Networking Hub
Hughes Network Systems (HNS) has started work on its latest satellite networking shared hub in Southfield, MI, a suburb of Detroit. Incorporating a range of multimedia broadcast facilities, this hub will operate standard satellite networking functions while supporting applications that require common-content distribution to remote sites. These applications include video conferencing and virtual universities.
The new hub will support all HNS satellite products including DirecPC/Enterprise Edition very small aperture terminal (VSAT) system, the integrated satellite business network (ISBN), a private satellite network, an interactive distance learning network, and a new generation of multimedia VSATs.
HNS expects to complete the hub by Mar. 1999. When completed, the new hub will serve between 10,000 to 15,000 remote VSAT sites by the end of 1999.
