Hittite Launches Digital Phase Shifter For Electronic Warfare Applications

Chelmsford, MA -- Hittite Microwave Corporation has introduced a MMIC 4-bit digital phase shifter standard product in die form, which is suitable for EW receivers, radar, satellite communications, and beamforming subassemblies from 8 to 12 GHz.The HMC543 is a 4-bit digital phase shifter offered in bare die form, and rated for operation from 8 to 12 GHz, while providing 0 to 360 degrees of phase coverage with a LSB of 22.5 degrees. The HMC543 provides a very low RMS phase error of 5 degrees and extremely low insertion loss variation of ± 0.8 dB across all phase states. This high accuracy phase shifter is controlled with complementary logic of 0/-3V, and requires no fixed bias voltage. Simple external level shifting circuitry can be used to convert a positive CMOS control voltage into complementary negative control signals. The HMC543 digital phase shifter is suited for hybrid MIC and MCM assembly applications, while the HMC543LC4B is recommended for designs requiring a SMT RoHS compliant package.
The HMC543 complements Hittite's existing line of high performance analog phase shifters which provide frequency coverage from 5 to 18 GHz. Additional digital phase shifters will also be introduced in the coming months.
