Hittite Announces New 4 To 32 GHz MMIC Image Reject Mixers

Chelmsford, MA -- Hittite Microwave Corporation introduced six new MMIC I/Q mixer die (HMC520, HMC521, HMC522, HMC523, HMC524, HMC525) and two SMT MMIC I/Q mixers (HMC520LC4 and HMC522LC4) that cover an RF/LO frequency range of 4 to 32 GHz. These IC mixer products deliver up to 40 dB of image rejection, making them ideal for microwave radio, test, and sensor applications.

These I/Q mixers offer IF bandwidth of up to DC to 3.5 GHz, conversion loss as low as 7.0 dB, input IP3 as high as +28 dBm, and RF to LO isolation of up to 50 dB. Compared with a hybrid based implementation, these I/Q MMIC mixers offer significantly reduced PCB area, consistent performance, and excellent amplitude and phase balance as a result of their monolithic construction.

For example, when configured as an image reject mixer using an external IF hybrid, the HMC522 provides greater than 35 dB of image rejection. Such image rejection performance would be difficult if not impossible to achieve on a production basis using mixers, splitters, and couplers in a hybrid MIC or PCB based approach, while MMIC IRMs provide these levels routinely. Each of these mixers is fabricated on a mature, reliable, and production-qualified high-volume GaAs MESFET process.

For applications where a surface mount package is desired, the HMC520LC4 and the HMC522LC4 are offered in a "Pb Free" and RoHS compliant, 4 mm by 4 mm leadless SMT package. All of these MMIC mixers will be available in the LC4 package in the second quarter of 2005.
