High Performance 4RU, 50-6000MHz Matrix: Model SGM48X 24 x 48 Distributive (Fan-OUT)
Universal Switching Corporation (USWI), a leading global manufacturer of RF signal switching, distribution, and conversion systems, today announced the release of its new SGM48X high-performance RF distributive switch matrix, a compact 4RU platform designed to support demanding broadband signal routing applications.
Developed in response to customer demand for greater connectivity and expanded frequency coverage, the SGM48X provides a non-blocking fan-out switching architecture supporting configurations up to 24 inputs by 48 outputs. Operating across a 50-6000 MHz frequency range, the system delivers flexible signal distribution for communication systems, surveillance platforms, ground station infrastructure, and electronic warfare environments.
Building on decades of RF switching expertise and the company’s widely deployed 16×16 and 16×32 matrix platforms, the SGM48X extends Universal Switching’s modular matrix family with greater capacity while maintaining the reliability and serviceability expected in mission-critical systems. The SGM48X is engineered with a modular internal architecture to simplify field service and upgrades. Reliability features include redundant hot-swap power supplies, monitored hot-swap cooling fans, and optional dual hot-swap CPUs, enabling continued system operation even during maintenance.
System control is handled through Universal Switching’s advanced C3-Lite processor platform, supporting 10/100/1000 Ethernet connectivity and multiple remote control protocols, including SNMP, TCP/IP, web interface control, and serial interfaces. A large 10.1-inch front-panel touchscreen display provides intuitive local monitoring and configuration, giving operators immediate visibility of routing status and system health. The matrix uses high-reliability Gen-5 GaAs switching technology and supports unity-gain signal paths with excellent isolation and flatness performance, ensuring high signal integrity across the entire operating band.
Packaged in a rugged 4RU rack-mount chassis, the SGM48X is designed for demanding installations where reliability, serviceability, and performance are critical. The SGM48X joins Universal Switching’s family of broadband matrix platforms, which also includes the SGM24 (up to 16×32) and SGM16 (up to 16×16) configurations, as well as a fan-in combining version, the SGM48Xi, providing system designers with flexible options for signal routing architectures.
