HFCL Introduces Two Innovative UBR Solutions: Advanced 4G And 5G Backhauling And Energy-Efficient Rural Broadband

  • HFCL's newly launched advanced 4G and 5G backhaul solutions are highly cost-effective, reducing total cost of ownership (TCO) to just one-tenth the cost of traditional microwave or E-band backhaul solutions.
  • Rural connectivity solutions use less than a third of the power required by typical microwave or E-band solutions.
  • Since the launch of the first generation of UBR (Unlicensed Band Radio) products in 2020, HFCL has shipped more than 500,000 UBR devices worldwide and has penetrated markets in India, the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
  • The 2 Gb/s UBR solution enables multiple remote communities to be connected with high bandwidth from a single fiber-PoP (Point of Presence), making it ideal for point-to-multipoint scenarios.
  • Designed for large-scale deployment in rural areas, this solution provides efficient and scalable network coverage for underserved regions, supporting the Prime Minister's initiative to transform rural areas by promoting digital inclusion and stimulating economic growth.

New Delhi /PRNewswire/ - HFCL Limited (HFCL), a leading technology company and provider of next-generation communications solutions, today announced the launch of two revolutionary Unlicensed Band products at the India Mobile Congress 2024 at the Pragati Maidan Convention Center in New Delhi Radio (UBR).

These innovations, which can meet the growing data demands of today's networks while maintaining environmental sustainability, include: (a) small form factor 1 Gb/s UBR for 4G/5G backhauling with unmatched spectral and energy efficiency and (b) energy-saving 2 Gb/s point-to-multipoint UBR for rural areas.

Developed in India, these UBR products underline HFCL's position as a key player in wireless solutions for 4G/5G backbone and rural connectivity. HFCL's new UBR devices offer optical fiber-comparable transmission speeds and energy efficiency with significant reductions in utility costs and transmitter space requirements, allowing telcos and service providers to save on both capital expenditure (CAPEX) and operational expenditure (OPEX). Unlike traditional backhauling solutions, be it costly fiber optic cables with limited range, microwave systems with inherent capacity limitations, or E-band radio links that run into reliability issues, HFCL's UBR devices offer superior performance, ultra-high capacity and high reliability at almost a tenth of the cost compared to traditional backhauling methods.

1 Gb/s small format UBR: Performance in a compact design
The 1Gbps UBR features a compact, lightweight design with an integrated antenna for extremely easy transport and installation. With its small form factor, it is ideal for rapid deployment in urban and rural environments and has advanced features such as bandwidth aggregation, low latency, minimized jitter, long range, etc., making it the optimal choice for 4G and 5G backhauling. Even in a compact design, the device offers a throughput of 1 Gb/s, which ensures reliable and fast last-mile access (on the last mile, between the end point of the network and the subscriber) and backhaul connection over longer distances. In addition, it features advanced RF interference mitigation technologies that improve signal integrity, increase achievable throughput, and optimize network performance in demanding environments.

2 Gb/s Point-to-Multipoint UBR: Energy Savings and Scalability
The 2 Gbps UBR enables the simultaneous delivery of high bandwidth to multiple locations from a single fiber-PoP, making it an ideal choice for providing connectivity to remote Gram Panchayat (local government) villages in a point-to- multipoint. It thus represents the optimal solution for large-scale installations in remote and rural areas.

These innovative UBRs are designed to achieve high throughput in the last mile and offer telcos and service providers a robust, scalable wireless backhauling solution.

A standout feature of HFCL's offering is the fact that these new UBR devices (as well as other wireless and wired devices in its portfolio) can be easily controlled, monitored and managed through an advanced Element Management System (EMS). This comprehensive single-pane-of-glass interface simplifies network management even for large-scale telecommunications and enterprise deployments. In addition, our link planning tool LinkXpert enables careful pre-planning of networks to ensure optimal use of resources and maximize network efficiency.

With its UBR products, the company has already achieved a significant milestone of 500,000 successful installations across key markets including India, UK, Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Commenting on the launch of the two new UBRs, HFCL CEO Mahendra Nahata said, “ We are proud to be the first company to launch top-of-the-line home-grown UBR solutions that provide high-quality, reliable and innovative telecommunication solutions for 5G network expansion. More than half a million successful implementations serving global customers testify to the growing demand for radio equipment for license-free bands that can meet connectivity requirements. These ground-breaking solutions demonstrate our commitment to solving the unique challenges faced by our telecommunications customers and shaping the future of the global telecommunications infrastructure. "
