Harris Launches Microwave Radio, WLL System

During this week's Supercomm showcase, the Microwave Communications Division of Harris Corp. (Redwood Shores, CA) released the next member in its family of MicroStar point-to-point radio systems. The new outdoor radio is engineered to provide a low-cost transport solution for link between cellular and/or PCS cellular sites. The radios can also be used by service providers needing to extend local access beyond the limits of their wireline networks.

The MicroStar radios are part of Harris' point-to-point product line and operate in a wide range of frequency bands, including 13, 15, 18, 23, and 38 GHz for voice and data applications. These radios are ideally suited for cellular networks, PCN/PCS, and global, private, or public communications systems.

The MicroStar outdoor radio is equipped with a user-friendly keypad and display unit guide the installer through simple-to-follow menus to configure, monitor, and control the radio. It complies with North American as well as international emission standards and meets the requirements of electromagnetic interference (EMI) and safety tests for outdoor operation.

WLL System
In addition to releasing the new microwave radio system, Harris' Microwave Communication Division launched a 400 MHz TDMA wireless local loop (WLL) system at Supercomm.

The new system dubbed WINRoLL, is a digital system targeted at WLL applications. These systems offer cell coverage of up to 50 km in radius, depending on the terrain, and provide direct interconnection with any local exchange via PCM trunks using E1/R2 signaling. In addition, the WINRoLL system will interface to a switch using V5.2 signaling.

The new WLL system can be set up to provide direct wireless access to a local exchange, such as a digital wireless private branch exchange (PBX), or as a standalone, wireless digital exchange that connects to the PSTN via microwave radio or satellite.

The 400 MHz WINRoLL system can be used in a variety of applications. The system can be employed to grow an existing business into areas where extending wireline service is too difficult or expensive. It can also be used to provide stand-alone wireless service where no service is available or to serve as a rapid deployment communications system for emergency applications.
