Harris Awarded $30M For Emergency Radio Communications System In New York
Harris Corporation, an international communications and information technology company, has received a $30M contract to deploy a P25 trunked emergency radio communications system and terminal equipment to support up to 25,000 public service and public safety users in Monroe County, New York. The contract was approved by Monroe County and released by NaviChase, LLC under the county's local development corporation.

Through the innovative use of public-private partnerships, Monroe County will have an advanced communication solution with the improved communications capability, enhanced capacity and regional interoperability important for first responders. The Harris digital, standards-based P25 network will deliver reliable, flexible, and scalable radio communications to support the county's public service and public safety agencies.
The Harris VIDA (Voice, Interoperability, Data and Access) network platform will provide Monroe County with a unified IP-based voice and data communication system based on APCO P25 industry standards. VIDA delivers full IP management features, including interoperability without intervention of console operators; IP consoles; and other benefits inherent in open IP architecture systems. It complies with both the current APCO P25 Phase 1 and the emerging P25 Phase 2 industry standard.
The Harris Unity XG-100P portable and Unity mobile radios bring full multimode interoperability for users across the entire VHF, UHF, 700, and 800 MHz spectrum. The Unity radios offer a unique solution with their combination of full-spectrum multiband capabilities and suite of advanced features. In noisy emergency situations, the Unity's noise-suppression technology delivers clear voice quality -- even with sirens blaring or fire engines running.
The Unity radio will interoperate directly with a number of systems in the Monroe County area including the County's existing UHF P25 conventional Law Enforcement system, the VHF Fire Services system and the UHF Public Service system. The Unity also enables communication interoperability with users in neighboring counties and with state or federal users whether they operate VHF, UHF, 700/800 MHz, analog or P25 radios.
