GSM Customers Top Two Million in US and Canada

The GSM industry has reached a landmark. By the end of July, there will be more than 100 million GSM customers around the world and more than two million GSM PCS subscribers in the US and Canada.

According to Don Warketin, chairman of the North American GSM Alliance, 17 North American GSM wireless operators provide commercial service to more than two million customers in 1,545 cities in the US and Canada.

Overall, GSM accounts for 38% of the world's total wireless market. By year-end, the GSM Alliance says that the GSM worldwide customer base will reach approximately 120 million customers.
