Featured Article: Interconnect Modeling And Simulation For RFIC Design

Source: Cadence Design Systems, Inc.

By Dr. John Dunn, Applied Wave Research, Inc.

This article examines the types of models and techniques that are being developed to help the RFIC designer understand the effects of interconnect on his or her design. The modeling methodologies have been borrowed from the more traditional microwave and mixed-signal ASIC (application-specific integrated circuit) communities, but have been modified for some of the unique needs of the RFIC community. The goal is to provide the designer with models that give sufficient accuracy yet simulate quickly enough that realistically sized circuits can be developed.
