Extreme Ultralow Noise Rubidium Clock For Stringent Defense Applications

Rubidium clock

Spectratime’s enhanced SRO-5680 rubidium atomic oscillator is designed for demanding defense, radar, airborne and radio communications applications

Spectratime, a world-leading provider of high precision atomic clocks and a business of the Orolia Group, recently announces its new enhanced Rubidium clock for demanding defense applications. The enhanced SRO-5680 is the latest GPS/GNSS synchronized rubidium oscillator, integrating an extreme ultralow noise crystal oscillator in one low-cost, COTS package. It utilizes SmarTiming+ technology to auto-adaptively synchronize, discipline, and control any Stratum-1 reference such as GPS/GNSS, Cesium, Hydrogen Maser, and T1/E1 lines at cutting-edge 1 ns resolution.

According to Pascal Rochat, CEO of Spectratime, "Next gen defense, radar, airborne and radio communications applications utilize high Ka band frequencies that require extreme ultralow phase noise and ultrahigh signal stability from a reliable frequency reference source. The enhanced SRO-5680 is specifically designed to address these stringent requirements, while providing a high precision timing signal to these systems."

The SRO-5680 is designed with three SMA connectors: one 1PPS input for an external Stratum-1 reference and two Stratum-1 disciplined 1PPS and 10 MHz RF outputs, all synchronized in phase and frequency to its Stratum-1 reference. Additional high performance features include:

  • Ultralow frequency offset over temp. range: 5E-11
  • Ultralow short-term stability: 5E-12 / 1 sec
  • Low warm-up current: <2.5A
  • Ultralow aging: < ±5E-11 / month
  • Extreme ultralow phase noise output (10 MHz RF out): -110 dBc @ 1 Hz
